What am I looking at? Understanding a HubSpot record

Read any record in three parts and the whole CRM makes sense.

When you open a contact, company, deal, or ticket, you're looking at three things: its properties (the information), its timeline (the history), and its associations (the related records). Once you can read those three areas, the whole system clicks.

  • Properties — the fields of information about the record: name, email, deal amount, status. Usually shown along the side.
  • Timeline / activity — the running history of everything that's happened: emails, calls, notes, meetings. This is the story of the relationship.
  • Associations — the other records this one connects to. A contact links to their company, their deals, and their tickets, so you can see the full picture in one place.

That web of connections is what makes a CRM powerful: everything about a customer, together. Spend a minute clicking around a record and it becomes second nature. If something looks different from what's described here, your system may be set up a little differently — ask your internal admin or check your team's job aids.
